Tesla Roadster price, deposit and reservation checks

Original buyer analysis: deposit exposure and agreement questions · Editorial methods

A reported $50,000 Roadster deposit is not a $50,000 vehicle price. The final retail price of the October 2026 redesign was not established by the reveal coverage reviewed here. InsideEVs’ configuration report gives the deposit schedule below, while its reveal overview describes the deposit as refundable.

Payment Amount in the report Timing in the report
Initial reservation payment $5,000 Immediately
Remaining reservation deposit $45,000 Within ten days
Total reservation deposit $50,000 Sum of those two payments
Final vehicle price Not established No current retail quote verified here

Evidence limit: both InsideEVs article bodies were read from saved captures. Their final re-fetch returned 403, as did Tesla’s product page. This publication has not directly checked a current regional agreement, placed an order or tested a refund. The schedule is a dated report of terms, not a live payment instruction.

The distinction affects more than terminology. The deposit does not tell you the balance due for the car, cap its eventual price, or establish taxes and augment costs. The 2017 concept’s $200,000 starting price should not be used to fill those gaps.

The reported split commits 10% of the total deposit initially and the remaining 90% within ten days. This is a deposit-payment split, calculated from $5,000 ÷ $50,000 and $45,000 ÷ $50,000. It is not a 10% vehicle down payment: the vehicle price needed for that calculation is unknown.

After both payments, the amount committed under the reported schedule is $50,000. The remaining vehicle balance still cannot be calculated. It would require a final price and an agreement specifying how the deposit is credited. A refundable deposit can also tie up funds while cancellation is processed; the word alone supplies no processing deadline.

For someone who needs a car by a fixed date, an unresolved delivery commitment is therefore a separate purchasing constraint from refundability. For someone seeking Rocket, an unresolved invitation or allocation is a separate constraint from the ability to send a deposit. Resolve the constraint that determines your intended purchase before treating the payment as progress toward it.

InsideEVs’ overview uses the word refundable. A buyer still needs the actual cancellation clause: who can cancel, how a refund is requested, whether deductions apply, and how long processing may take. This site cannot guarantee those details from a news summary.

The two-stage payment also creates a specific question: what happens to the first $5,000 if the remaining $45,000 is not paid on time? Save the applicable terms before sending either amount. Do not assume the consequence from the total alone.

Review the agreement once, against these questions

Section titled “Review the agreement once, against these questions”
  1. Market and currency: which Tesla entity is the contracting party, and which market’s terms govern the reservation? The dollar amounts in a report are not a quote for every country.
  2. What is reserved: does the agreement identify Performance, Thrust, Rocket, an augment or only an allocation opportunity? Limited release and invite-only wording need explicit clarification.
  3. Price and payment: is any final price fixed, what remains variable, and what happens if the second payment deadline is missed?
  4. Cancellation and refund: who can cancel, which amounts are refundable, how is a request made, and are timing or deductions specified?
  5. Delivery and permitted use: is there a contractual delivery commitment, and what happens if the intended configuration cannot be supplied or registered in your market?

Start from Tesla’s official Roadster page, and keep a copy of the terms and payment receipt. This wiki has no payment form, reservation agency or affiliate order link.

Existing reservation holders have a separate question

Section titled “Existing reservation holders have a separate question”

The October 2026 redesign and configuration names do not themselves explain how an earlier agreement carries forward. Request written confirmation of how existing payments, queue position, cancellation rights and configuration selection will be handled. Neither an old receipt nor the new reveal is enough for this publication to promise automatic priority or conversion.

Musk’s 2028 statement is a production target, not an individual delivery date. Rocket is also reported as not approved for public-road use. Resolve those questions alongside the payment terms if they determine whether the reservation serves your intended use.

Commercial summary reviewed October 16, 2026. The amounts and refund description remain attributed to dated journalism pending direct review of the live agreement.
